167. Death From Above

RAW ✔️ The Aranthian Succession – Spire of Primus, p82

"These base-born hivers are so used to tunnels that they forget to watch the skies."
- Norn Helmawr, Baron of the Underhells, Yeld Spyre Hunter, House Helmawr

In this scenario, one gang attempts to break into a hive via its landing field.

Attacker and Defender

In this scenario, one gang is the attacker and the other is the defender. If this scenario is being played as part of a campaign, then the gang that issued the challenge is the attacker; otherwise, roll off with the winner deciding whether they will attack or defend.

Battle Type

This scenario is an Underhive battle; vehicles and Wargear that grant the Mounted condition cannot be included in either gang's starting crew.

Battlefield

This scenario uses the standard rules for setting up a battlefield, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Core Rulebook with the following exception; before placing any terrain the Defender selects a battlefield edge as the Landing Field Edge. No terrain should be placed within 6" of the Landing Field Edge.

Crews

This scenario uses the standard rules for choosing a crew, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Core Rulebook. Both gangs use the Custom Selection (7) method to determine their crew.

Deployment

The attacker sets up their starting crew in base contact with the Landing Field Edge. The defender then deploys their starting crew anywhere on the battlefield at least 9" away from enemy fighters.

Gang Tactics

This scenario uses the standard rules for gang tactics as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Core Rulebook.

Ending the Battle

If either gang has no fighters left on the battlefield at the end of any round, the battle ends immediately.

Victory

If at least three of the attacker's fighters Broke Through (see Breaking Into Primus opposite) they are victorious. Otherwise, the defender is victorious.

Rewards

Credits

The victorious gang adds 2D6x10 credits to their Stash.

The losing gang adds D6x10 credits to their Stash.

Experience

Any fighter that successfully Breaks Through earns an additional 1 XP.

Any fighter that takes an enemy fighter Out of Action using the Shove (Basic) action earns an additional 1 XP.

Reputation

The victorious gang gains D3 Reputation.

Home Turf Advantage

The defender has the Home Turf Advantage as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Core Rulebook.

Breaking into Primus

The battlefield edge opposite the Landing Field Edge is considered the Exit Edge. At the start of each End phase any attacking fighters within 1" of the Exit Edge may Break Through. Remove the fighter from the battlefield. They are considered to have been taken Out of Action for the purposes of Bottle checks.

Access Denied

Defending fighters can try to push attacking fighters over the Landing Field Edge if they are within 3" of it by performing the Shove (Basic) action.

Shove (Basic): The target must make an Initiative test. If the test is failed, they immediately topple from the edge of the Landing Field and go Out of Action.

Hive Breach

The air is being sucked out, making it difficult for fighters to maintain their positions. If a fighter is standing at the end of their activation, that fighter makes a Strength check. If failed, they become Prone and Pinned.

Fleeing the Battlefield

If either gang voluntarily bottles out and subsequently flees the battlefield, their opponent automatically wins the scenario.

note

Haera's Strike Force

If players wish, they may use this scenario to represent Haera and her Spyrers breaking back into Hive City and smashing through the Enforcers' blockade. In order to do so, make the following changes:

  • The attacker should be a Spyre Hunting Party gang led by Lady Haera in Sthenian-pattern Hunting Rig.
  • The defender should be a Palanite Enforcers gang.
  • The defending gang rolls a D6 before the start of the battle, before the first roll for Priority. Pick that many Enforcers at random. Each one starts the battle with a Flesh Wound.
